Sportsline Ceramics
Back in 1989, painting ceramics started out as a small hobby for us. My "now wife and then girlfriend" Donna and I began painting Holiday items and others to be given away as gifts for our friends. Donna and her Mother had opened a small ceramics store in Monaca and ran that for a few years at this time as well. While looking for new items with them, I found the "nodders" or bobblehead dolls at one of the suppliers. It was decided to purchase them and begin painting them as my own little side hobby. My goal was to just make some for myself to have. I decided to paint a couple and sell them on eBay and that went very well. Soon enough, I was starting a small business and placing business cards at various stores and bulletin boards. Little by little, word got out and people started calling for dolls for their cheerleading squads, baseball teams, and other groups ranging from small kids around the age of 6 to Seniors in high school. We have now been working on these for over 22 years. They have been sent from local communities to California and even one that was shipped to Japan. Each doll is painted by hand with as much detail as we can possibly apply. Over the years we have progressed from hand-writing the names on the bases and painting the numbers to using stickers and appliques to make them a little more authentic. The fact remains that most of the detail is still hand-drawn and hand-painted on each individual doll. That is what makes them so unique, even when doing a group of 12 or more, no two will be exactly alike. They are a great gift for kids from 8 to 80.
